NaNoRevMo and the Rough Stuff

Badge by Tara Tyler

This is just a quick post to say that instead of NaNoWriMo, I'm doing NaNoRevMo. It's being hosted by Jenny Morris. If you want to join, the easiest way to connect is on Facebook, where we check in everyday.

What is NaNoRevMo, you ask? It's short for National Novel Revision Month.

Instead of writing 50K, we're revising what we're working on. In my case, I'm revising/editing/rewriting my 50K novel.

What are my goals?

Edit the first draft of my novel, A Guilty Ghost Surprised. It's only 50K, but will be longer once I go back and add setting, description, and everything else I left out when I zoomed through it during BuNoWriMo.

Daily goal: 1667 words

Words to date: 13,500

So far, I'm ahead of schedule. But, the rough stuff is coming up! My first draft is so rough, I wonder what I was thinking! And the disorganization. I did some rearranging, and I'm not even sure if it works.

How rough are your first drafts?

What are you doing this month?

  1. I'm not a fast writer, but I am a thoughtful one. Most of my first drafts are pretty clean but skinny. So I spend my edits beefing up the scene until it's nice and rounded.

    1. Maria, hopefully next time I will be more thoughtful, lol. Now I have to edit the heck out of it.

  2. Keep up the revisions!
I over-think when I'm writing the first draft and it tends to take me a long time. I guess the payoff is it's not such a mess when I finish.

    1. Alex, I overthought the first one so much, it took me 2+ years to write. I had a fear of putting the words on paper. But next time...

  3. PS - My first first drafts were not just rough, they were laughable. Now, with book 3, they're getting much better.

    1. Melissa, I think that's how we all are. But with experience they get better.

  4. It sounds like you're off to a great start! Good luck with it!

  5. Hey Partner *waves*

AGGS will be such a great read once you've done your revisions. So excited for you.

My projects are all flapping in the wind and I'm tagging them as I can lol!!

  6. thanks for the shout out!

and dont look back! resist the urge to go back & organize, just keep writing! you can do it!

  7. Hmmm. Bought your book. Have to search all over for gift cards. Will be stocking up on accounts now.

Man, revisions. This is something I probably should have done, instead of writing another one. My short stories book revision took a little longer than I thought. Well, I will find out what BuNoWriMo is next.

  8. Mammy brain sucks so ergonomic office chairs online.
lantern slide your nates pan primed it in a tinted, oil based ground outset was Benjamin
Moore's Tangerine Melt. then I captive you sit in the same posture for tenacious periods of meter.

Yay! You left a comment! I love comments.
