So here we go!
Alex Cavanaugh's Favorites Blogfest. It's all about your favorite movies, music and books in each genre and your guilty pleasure in one of these categories.
Here are my favorites:
Movies: I'm not a big movie watcher because we have to drive too far 1+ hours. But my standard go-to movie at home is the Deathly Hallows. Yep, Harry Potter.
Music:
Classic Rock. I know this is really telling my age. But hey, it used to be just rock. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, Black Sabbath, Bad Company, Foreigner, the Doobie Brothers, Chicago. You get the picture. But I listen to a lot of other music as well.
Books: Young adult, paranormal and dystopian. Think Paranormalcy, the Hunger Games, Harry Potter. Also, I like British mysteries (Reginald Hill, Stephen Booth, M.C. Beaton).
My Guilty Pleasure: It's in music, surprisingly. Lately, I've been really getting into Italian music. Weird, huh? We have Italian night every Friday (food, wine, garlic bread - more wine) and to get in the whole Italian mood, we put Italian music on Pandora. My favorite song? Mambo Italiano.
What is your guilty pleasure, hmmm?
An hour! Wow, it takes only 25 minutes for my family to bike to ours (10 mins if we drive). Thanks to the new pedestrian bridge over the major road (which enables us to bike there quickly), we can get some exercise before the kids eat popcorn. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat book choices.
Stina, it's more like an hour and 15 minutes! I'd have to want to see the movie pretty badly.
DeleteIt's nice you can bike to the theater:)
Italian night! Oh you're tugging on my Italian heartstrings! Love it, plus we have similar book likes too (:
ReplyDeleteElise, love Italian night, loved Italy even though we were only there for about 24 hours. The food was delicious:)
DeleteHey, the Italian music is for mood!
ReplyDeleteI'd show my age with some of those classic bands as well.
Thanks for participating in my blogfest. Enjoy time with your mother and sister this week.
Alex, yep, it is mood music - even if I do sing along...and who doesn't like classic rock? Mom and sis will be here this afternoon - can't wait!
DeleteAh, I love Harry Potter. Italian music, huh? I love it!
ReplyDeleteKimberly, HP is my hero - well, I guess Hermione is really my favorite:)
DeleteGuilty as charged on the Italian music:)
Yay, Harry Potter!
ReplyDeleteWow, you live quite far from the movies! The closest cinema to me is about 15 minutes drive from home.
And it looks like we have similar book tastes :-)
Rachel, we live in the Rocky mountains west of Colorado Springs. It's actually about an hour and 15 minute drive to get to the theater. I'd rather read:)
DeleteLoved your post, and favourites I only wrote about music as just changing my blog around didn't know about the blogfest.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
R&R, thank you. I joined the blogfest last minute as well.
DeleteLove the theme night idea. Might have to incorporate that one. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda, living so far away from everything, we have to make our own fun:)
DeleteAwesome. You read the genre I write. Good to know.
ReplyDeleteMy guilty pleasure? Weird Al. Yes, I'm mature-ish. :)
David, Ha! Weird Al - that's funny.
Deletewe rarely go to movies, too expensive! we pay per view =)
ReplyDeleteand italian night sounds wonderful!
Isn't that the truth, Tara? It's the popcorn, candy and soda that costs so much. Although we bring in our own candy. But really, we go to the theater about once a year.
DeleteAnd yes, we have fun on Italian night:)
Great music choices. I think Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite, but I like Lupin.
ReplyDeleteJoshua, I adore Lupin as well. Prisoner of Azkaban was sort of a turning point in Harry Potter. Well, that and Goblet of Fire when Voldemort was really back.
Deleteclassic rock... is classic. i am still a fan of it all, now my clothes need a make-over... cause i get stuck there.
ReplyDeleteJeremy [Retro-Zombie]
Howlin' Wolf Records: On-Line Magazine
Jeremy, lol! My daughter accuses me of being a hippie because of the clothing I gravitate to:)
DeleteThird attempt to leave a comment...
ReplyDeleteI have Hunger Games on my Kindle and need to get to it! Along with 300 other titles. :)
My brother's a huge Pandora fan, and now my daughter. I need to get more plugged in. Italian night does sound like fun.
Cate, thanks for attempting 3 times!
ReplyDeleteThe Hunger Games is definitely a must-read.
I highly recommend Italian night:)
It definitely seems to me as if we have a lot in common. I can't say that I like Italian music but I definitely love Italian food.
ReplyDeletewww.modernworld4.blogspot.com
Gina, Italian food is so yummy. And if you want to get in the whole mood, you have to have Italian music on Pandora or the DVR. It sort of grows on you:)
DeleteI could never live anywhere that required me to drive more than 30 min to get to the movies. I love them too much, lol. Cool idea for Friday night dinner.
ReplyDeleteIsis, yeah it's pretty far. I do miss civilization sometimes. You know, Starbucks and things like that:)
DeleteGreat list! I think you'd like my guilty pleasure:-)
ReplyDeleteJamie, sounds intriguing. I'm on my way over:)
DeleteLOVE the cool completely Italian themed nights.
ReplyDeleteJohanna, we really enjoy it. I forgot to say that we also have a candle stuffed into a chianti bottle:)
DeleteI love everything on your list! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Jaycee:)
DeleteI love all your choices here, except maybe the Italian music :P Then again, one of my favourite bands is an Italian band. But they're gothic metal, so...yeah ;)
ReplyDeleteTrisha, Italian gothic metal? I really can't imagine it, lol!
DeleteToo bad you're so far from the theater! I watch probably 3-4 movies a week at best, but at least 1 a week. Have you ever considered torrents or watching online? You could hook up a cord to your computer to your TV and watch on the VGA setting.
ReplyDeleteJeremy, I'm not that technologically savvy, lol! Torrents? VGA what?
DeleteI have a long drive to the movie theater too. It really does make you more selective about what you see.
ReplyDeleteAnd YAY for the Hunger Games and Harry Potter!
M.J., Hunger Games and Harry Potter are the only 2 movies I drove to town for!
DeleteI adore Pink Floyd. They were recently in Oz and were a sensation. I love the funky modern Italian tenors like Il Divo.
ReplyDeleteDenise, I saw Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon in concert in 1974 - I was 14 years old. It's still one of the best concerts I've been to.
DeleteI'll have to look up Il Divo:)
I'm so with you on Harry Potter and classic rock! And on YA books, of course. :)
ReplyDeleteShallee, we have a lot in common. You might even like Italian music:)
DeleteYou've got me hooked with the book selections. I suppose we can now add our own two novels in there lol!!!
ReplyDeleteAngela, we certainly can add our books to the YA selection!
DeleteIt is too expensive to really enjoy the movies out. I'd rather wait to rent it or get it from the library. Except the Avengers. Had to see that.
ReplyDeleteGreat list.
Thanks for sharing.
Heather, I'm with you. I wait until the movie comes our on DVD or pay per view. Except Harry Potter and the Hunger Games:)
DeleteItalian pop music is kind of weird stuff. I sometimes used to listen to it in high-school days; Enzo Ramazotti and Gianna Nanini and stuff like that. Now my main interest in Italian music is the classic operas ... and the goth band Lacuna Coil is pretty good >:)
ReplyDeleteCold As Heaven
Cold, I'm not sure I've listened to Italian pop - for some reason, I really like the classic stuff. You're the second person who said they liked Italian goth - definitely going to have to check it out:)
Deleteps i awarded you the daisy award =)
ReplyDeleteTara, YAY! The Daisy Award - very cool. Thanks:)
DeleteWow, over an hour to get to a movie theater!?! Although I wouldn't mind so much because I hardly ever go to the theater - too expensive and too many loud popcorn chewers. :-) But I sure do give my Netflix subscription a hearty workout!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading about your favorite genres,
Jocelyn
Jocelyn, not much I want to see badly enough to drive an hour+ - I wait until it comes out on television.
DeleteHi, Gwen. I love to talk music and was so glad to see such great mentions. I listed Classic Rock as well. Keep rockin'! ;)
ReplyDelete-Jimmy
http://jamesgarciajr.blogspot.com/
James, yep, classic rock rocks! Do you remember the vinyl albums? lol!
DeleteThat's a long drive to the movies. I guess I wouldn't make that very often either.
ReplyDeleteSusan, I have to want to see it pretty bad!
DeleteThe first year of our marriage it was just shy of 2 hours to get to a big theater, but we did have a 3-plex right by us (that I managed, haha). We missed out on a lot of movies because, like you said, we had to really want to see it to go to it. We'd go up on a weekend to visit my family and sometimes see a movie, though. When you work at a theater, you usually don't want to be at another theater during your little bit of off-time.
