It's Insecure Writer's Support Group Day! If you'd like to join, go HERE.
Thanks to Alex Cavanaugh and his band of jolly co-hosts for the month: Victoria Marie Lees, Kim Lajevardi, Nancy Gideon, and Cathrina Constantine! who are making this event happen.
Today's optional question: How do you deal with distractions when you are writing? Do they derail you?
Answer: As long as I have a goal, i.e., a daily word count, I do okay. My best friend recently told me that I'm goal oriented. I guess I hadn't really realized it. Sometimes I think she knows me better than I know myself. That's what comes from fifty years of friendship. LOL.
Since all the world is a distraction right now,
what do you do to stay focused?
P.S. Life is a struggle right now. Remember to be kind to yourself. You deserve it!
Goals do help one stay on track.
ReplyDeleteYes, having goals can help you fight against being distracted. And I love the last lines of your post. They're so true.
ReplyDeleteGoals do truly help me. I forget to set them with my writing. Once I do, things get better. Thanks for reminding me. Have a great month!
ReplyDeleteHappy IWSG Day, Gwen! You have a perceptive lifelong friend and you're lucky to be goal oriented. I wish I were! My husband calls me the world's best rationalizer, and I am. I can rationalize away meeting a goal in a few seconds. LOL. Yes, it's important to be kind to yourself, especially now when the world is struggling with so many problems. Take care!
ReplyDeleteGoals definitely help. I don't struggle as much with distractions when I'm in composing mode, heading toward word counts. But that's also the part of writing I find easiest and most fun (I remember with a sigh when I thought that was pretty much all writing was--ha!).
ReplyDeleteGoals help a lot.
ReplyDeleteFifty years of friendship is lovely. I think sometimes the people around us often tell us a better deal we subconsciously knew about ourselves. Its a gift to be goal oriented. It's a herculean task but doing something mostly happens after planning about it.
ReplyDeleteGwen, I can be distracted easily, more so when I don't have a specific goal in mind, and even then, I need to put my head down and concentrate hard to keep engaged. Too many things to do and so little time. I know you know! I have become goal oriented but writing has had to take a backseat. And when I say backseat, I mean like a trailer behind the car backseat. I plan on staying engaged with IWSG but I'll need to plan in advance to do so. Take care!
ReplyDeletecompleting a goal one day at a time is a great strategy!
ReplyDeletehope things are going well for you!
